V.T SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

SUEB is not only concerned with human relations in society but also plays a crucial role in reducing poverty among the villages. In this regard “SKILLS DEVELOPMENT” is an important component of the fight against poverty.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING enables adult women to undergo skills development and is an important element in increasing confidence and help people establish income generation activities.

VILLAGE TRAINING FEASABLE ENVIRONMENT

SUEB Vocational training facilities enables the training to be imparted in a non threatening environment close to the trainees homes. This is particularly useful in encouraging women’s enrolling for the training.

CASE STUDY

Village Name : Medavakkam
Group Name : Manoranjitham SHG
Member’s Name : Ms. Parvathi
Children : 4
Address : No.1/351, Medavakkam.

I am Parvathi a SUEB member and the following is my personal experience. My husband betrayed me when my youngest child was three months old.

I had to undergo many problems and difficulties in my life to bring up my children. I wanted to educate my children so that they will have a better future; but I couldn’t afford the educational expenses. I was working as a servant maid in many houses to earn money to pay for my children’s food and education. Even after working long hours my income was insufficient for the food expenses. I thought that if got a job in a company I would be able to earn sufficiently so, I got employed as a unskilled worker. The income even now was meager.

I found it very difficult to make ends meet. By the grace of god I came to know about SUEB through a friend of mine. This chance information made a huge difference in my life. I joined a SHG in SUEB called Manoranjitham and got a loan of Rs.4000/-. I purchased a wet grinding machine to make ready to cook dough. Due to the demand for dough I was able to earn money to fulfill all the needs of my family. Now I have sufficient income and can afford paying for my children’s education while being able to afford the daily meals.

I am able to repay the loan amount. Now I am eligible to get another loan amount for Rs.5000/-. With this money I plan to improve my business by packing the dough in order to door deliver the same. I would like to buy a cycle for transportation of my goods. SUEB has not only made my life prosperous but has given new life to many people in my position. Thanks to SUEB .

CASE STUDY

Village Name : Perumbakkam

Group Name : Pushpam SHG

Member’s Name : Ms. Dhanalakshmi

Children : 3

Address : Forest Dept.Avenue,
Perumbakkam

I am Dhanalakshmi and I have three children. I suffered a lot to bring up my family on my husband’s small salary. His salary was not sufficient for me to run my family with 3 meals a day. At this time I heard of SUEB through Ms. Kirubavathi a women organizer from SUEB. She was looking after a SHG near my house. Ms. Kanniyammal a leader from the group took me to see Ms. Kirubavathi.

I got a clear picture about SUEB and its functioning. I became a member of a SHG and after six months I availed a loan of Rs.2000/-. I made pappads to sell. I now make pappads in my house and sell them in shops nearby. I returned my loan in 10 months and then took a loan of Rs.5000/- from SUEB.

I was able to save Rs.100/- per month with my SHG. My business has improved so now I employ some of my neighbours to help. My status has gone up with my income and my children are studying in private schools. Thanks to SUEB and its staff.
